Inspiration from Apologist Ravi Zacharias’ message: Is Jesus the only way
After Abraham (the father of faith) had gone against God and obeyed his wife rather than God, a son came out of that relationship with Hagar by name Ishmael. Years later God’s promise was fulfilled and Sarah bore Abraham a son by name Isaac. Some will call it adultery, in my language it is called “adwaman”- which comes from two words adwa (anything that divides) and man (a nation). In other words “adwaman” literally means anything that divides a nation.
About 5000 years ago, God told Abraham to offer his only son. The Muslims believe and say it was Ishmael, the Christians believe it was Isaac. Let’s come to a compromise, let’s not make any inference and assume it was Abraham’s son without turning to the left or right. When Abraham was about to kill his son, God told him to stop and provided a sheep in the stead of Abraham’s son for the sacrifice. He promised Abraham that He will provide His own Son for the sacrifice to appease Himself. Abraham called Him Jehovah Jireh (The Lord my Provider).
True to His word, 2000 years ago, Jehovah Jireh provided His own sacrifice by offering us Jesus Christ, His Only Begotten Son. This time around He did not stop His Only Son from dying, but made Him who had no sin to atone and stand in the gap to take away the sin of the world.
Until we (both Christians and Muslims) accept and take Jesus as the true sacrifice of God, we will continue to offer our sons and daughters on the battle fields of this world for land, power and pride.
As we celebrate the greatest gift of God to Humanity, let us be mindful of this, that we cannot go about offering our own sacrifices for our redemption. The greatest gift we can give God and humanity this Christmas is to give ourselves and heart (Romans 12:1).
You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
